Who We Are
WakeUp NMB emerged on the NextDoor social media platform on May 22, 2022, initiated by former North Miami Beach Commissioner Barbara Kramer. Driven by concerns about the city’s trajectory, Kramer leveraged her assertive leadership style and commitment to good governance on NextDoor, tapping into an engaged audience.
Responding to her posts, residents embraced the call to join a collective mission for a renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility within City Hall. With an impending election within six months, there was a pressing need to address lingering questionable practices, particularly the excessive spending at City Hall.

Recognizing the potential threat to North Miami Beach, residents rallied under the banner of WakeUp NMB to usher in a new Commission. The group became a catalyst for change, culminating in the election of three experienced commissioners on November 22, 2022—exactly six months after its inception. These commissioners were tasked with restoring ethical leadership to NMB.
Now established as a non-profit organization, WakeUp NMB is dedicated to raising awareness and fostering resident participation. Its overarching goal is to ensure that the City of North Miami Beach is governed by authentic, inclusive, and ethical leaders.
